Coming up: Mindful Nature Walk at Highwoods (Chanterelle), Saturday 7th July

Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, in which you visit a forest for relaxation and recreation, is a popular approach to stress-management in Japan. In 1982 the Forest Agency of Japan proposed incorporating regular forest bathing trips into a healthy lifestyle, and since then it’s become a well-recognised relaxation activity and/or ‘green therapy’ for adults and children alike.

Join me for a gentle walk through one of Colchester’s woodlands, beaches, meadows or other areas of natural beauty as I encourage mindful appreciation of our surroundings and help you to switch off from the frenzy of everyday life and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.

Come along to Chanterelle car park at Highwoods Country Park for a spot of forest bathing at 9:30am on Saturday 7th July. Please find all the details and RSVP via Meetup.com.

Three top tips for staying cool

Here at The Wright Fit I love the sunshine, but I know that getting too hot, with all it entails (sweating, dehydration, headaches, heat stroke), can be no fun at all. Here are three of my favourite ways to keep cool:

jordi-zamora-179529

One Fill a spray bottle with water and a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil, and keep it in the fridge. When you’re feeling hot, mist your face (but avoid your eyes!).

Two Freeze a bottle of water, wrap it in a pillowcase and use it as a “cold water bottle” to keep you cool overnight.

mike-dorner-173502Three Freeze a banana (whole, but without the skin) to make instant banana sorbet. When you’re feeing peckish, put the banana in a bowl and microwave it for about 30 seconds so it’s still mostly frozen but slightly softened. Add a couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder and mush it all together to make healthy, vegan, Paleo chocolate banana sorbet!

With this hot weather, it’s even more important to stay fully hydrated – and you might need to drink more than you thought!
I aim for the recommended 2 litres of water per day, but because of my height/weight and activity level (let alone the weather!) I should be having more like 3.5 litres per day! Check your own hydration needs with this handy calculator!
Comment below with your top tips on how to drink more water – or let me know if you’re struggling to fit it in. 🙂
