Is the Colchester Italian Conversation Group the right fit for me?

autumn-campus-girls-49Are you currently learning Italian, or re-learning what you once knew, or you’d like to start learning?

Do you feel like you’re limited by the current apps / books / learning resources you’re using, because there’s no substitute for actually going out and holding a conversation with someone in Italian?

Would you like to come and meet fellow Italian-learners and practise your speaking and listening skills in a fun and friendly environment?

The Colchester Italian Conversation Group is for you

The Colchester Italian Conversation Group (CICG) is for everyone who’s learning, re-learning or keen to start learning Italian, as well as for fluent and native speakers who’d like to help out less experienced learners and maybe also practise their English!

In December 2016 I created the Colchester Italian Conversation Group, my first Meetup group. I had studied A-Level Italian more than a decade previously, and achieved semi-fluency, but then become increasingly rusty due to lack of practice. Around 2012 I won a prize in a WIGs raffle of a conversation in Italian with a native speaker, and I was astonished to find that I was still able to muddle through a conversation and hadn’t completely forgotten everything!

Inspired to reacquire my former fluency, I started re-learning Italian using the free Duolingo app. The app is brilliant (I recommend it!) but there’s no substitute for having real-life conversations in the language you’re trying to learn, and I didn’t have anyone to practise in-person speaking and listening with. I looked around for language and conversation groups in the Colchester area and came up empty-handed, so eventually I decided to bite the bullet and create my own! It’s now a thriving community with over 80 members at all levels. Come and say ciao! 🙂

Start where you are

rawpixel-com-250087All levels are welcome at the CICG so don’t worry if you’re not sure how to conjugate ‘trapassato’ or you can’t get your head around the plurals and genders… or even if you don’t know a single word in Italian! (I bet you know “ciao”!)

At the CICG you’ll work with other learners to complete challenges and play games, during which you’ll learn new words, practise using the ones you already know and give your ‘language muscles’ a good workout!

moritz-schmidt-17467Learning through fun

The Wright Fit doesn’t believe in slogging away to learn something – it’s no fun and it probably won’t go in (or if it does, it won’t stick!). The easiest way to learn something is to focus on something else, like trying to solve a puzzle, while the intricacies and nuances of the language filter into your brain almost by accident. That’s how you learned to speak English (or your mother tongue) and look how good at that you are!
